Casa Latxaberria

ACCOMMODATION

We hold our house-party holidays at one of two beautiful farmhouses, specially selected for their pretty settings in the mountain villages of the Basque Pyrenees, an hour south of the Atlantic Ocean, Biarritz and San Sebastian.  Not only do they have breathtaking views from every window but are also situated in tiny hamlets where we can sit and watch the comings and goings of the local farmers and Basque rural life.  The houses have all mod cons, hair dryers, washing machines etc. but please bring out any European adaptor plugs as we are running out!

To understand the spirit of our unique house-party holidays do check out our page on food and philosophy.

Casa Latxaberria

We hold some of our house parties at Casa Latxaberria; a beautifully restored farmhouse nestling in the tiny hamlet of Azpilkueta, in the Baztan valley, Navarre, and lying on one of the oldest pilgrim routes of "El Camino de Santiago".  The house has 7 bedrooms and a lounge with log fire and veranda where guests can breakfast to the sound of the mountain stream running through the garden (and the donkeys braying in the field next door!).  The capital of the Baztan valley, Elizondo, is just a 10 minute drive away and the French border is just half an hour away over the mountain pass (which explains the history of smuggling in the area!).

Lesko Borda

At other times we have decided to move our house parties back to Ameztia, my tiny mountain hamlet of 19 people, perched high in the hills above the village of Ituren in the Malerreka valley.  UNESCO's recognition of Ituren for its ancient, pagan carnival processions highlights the depth of tradition in this whole area.   Here the medieval landscape is dramatic. Bracken stacks are still made by hand, and neighbouring farms still make their own bread, cheese and Patxarran.  Lesko Borda is a beautifully restored farmhouse with 7 bedrooms, a lounge with log fire and a large terrace with stunning views of Mendaur (the highest mountain in the valley, renowned for its witches covens or 'akelare').

Elizondo

The near-by town, Elizondo, has an excellent medical centre and a range of banks, shops, chemists, etc., if you need anything else.
